We all have the desire to look
back a year from now and see that we have grown. To see that our ability to influence others
has expanded, or that we’ve grown stronger spiritually, mentally and
physically. Perhaps, we envision receiving that next promotion, checking off
another goal off our bucket list, etc…We want to expand and feel accomplished! But
are we willing to do what it takes to achieve this expansion?
In Zechariah 3:7, we see that
Joshua was told “If you will walk in my ways, and if you will keep my command,
then you shall also judge my house.” The “if” makes this sentence
conditional. In other words, if Joshua
would be obedient, then his reach would be expanded. Instead of planning our next move or goal, we
need to first ensure we are being obedient to God’s calling. “No longer is it a
question of how can I expand my potential but rather how can I allow God’s
power to flow through me?” (John Maxwell).
Luke 16:10 says, “He who is
faithful in what is least is faithful also in much.” We need to start with what we have and allow
the Lord to guide us. As we move in
faith and do what he has instructed, he will take care of expanding our
reach. It’s not for us to worry about or
create our own waves. It’s for us to be
obedient, take action based on his leading, and allow him to work out the
details. Isaiah 1:19 says “If you are
willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land.”
Do you want to expand your reach? Then be obedient!
